quite good we stayed here for the second time, we went the Glacier national park for 2 times, and both 2 times, we booked the hostel there to stay for a night. We booked a quad room, so our family can sleep in the room, the hostel offer private room for people to book, the price is reasonable, the amenities are simply but enough, they provided the lining for you, but you have to take it out when you check-out the room. There is a bakery shop downstairs, you can buy food, snacks there, we bought some ice-cream after dinner. There is a kitchen, you can cook, a comment room, you can chit-chat with others. There is shared bathroom and restroom, but also has s newer bathroom and restroom at the other end, for those newer one, it's one toilet in one room, or one shower in one room. The staffs are friendly. But people may get up very early in the morning, so you may hear the people walking sound in 5am.
Simple, affordable and clean No frills here -- just warm people and quiet, comfortable rooms. You can beat it for price. I enjoyed talking with some traveling phD students and having a snack with them. Great little place to lay your head after a long day of sightseeing and hiking.
Cheap and cheerful It's a hostel with all of the amenities expected of a hostel. Clean rooms and public spaces. Enough bathrooms and shower rooms to accommodate all of the guests with very little wait time. The prices in the bakery are definitely not designed to attract the locals, but not bad for tourist/summer prices! The walls are cardboard thin, but that wasn't an issue the two nights I stayed there - the other guests were quiet. The temperature mentioned by other reviewers wasn't a problem as the outside temp was around 50 and I had two heavy blankets in the room. Bedding and towels were provided. The wifi is iffy, but not any more spotty than most in the area - the area is pretty remote and cell and internet is dodgy at best. I enjoyed chatting with the hikers finishing their CDT hike from the Mexican border to the Canadian border. Intrepid hostel mates!! Generally an enjoyable weekend stay and the price was WAY less expensive than the RBOs or hotels in this area...even at off season prices.
Close to 2 Medicine, Great Staff and incredible sandwiches and Bakery items This was the third time I've stayed at Brownies and I must say it gets better each time. It is located in a 100 year old building with tons of character and friendly guests. Being a Hostel, it is a great place to meet other travelers and share a hike or a meal with them. They added a couple small private bathrooms recently and a private shower room along with updating outlets in the rooms with USB ports so I don't have to dig out my adapter. It is easily the most affordable option in the area and offers a basic room for recharging after a long day on the trail. Since it doesn't get dark until past 10 PM I didn't spend any real time in the room except to sleep. The walls are pretty thin so I used the fan for white noise and got a great nights sleep. If you love meeting people from all over the world and just need a clean comfortable place to recharge Brownies fits the bill.
Great base for hiking in Two Medicine We had a private double room, and it was everything we could have wanted. yes, the walls are thin and there are shared bathrooms, but what do you expect from a hostel that charges $50 per night for your own bedroom? Room size was actually pretty decent and the bed was comfortable. I like that everyone staying here seemed like a serious hiker. I like that the bakery downstairs was open from 7am to 10pm and that they provided breakfast and lunch to go - great for maximizing time on the trails. If I am ever in shape to hike Pitamakan-Dawson in a single day again (18 miles!), I will definitely spend another 2 nights here.
Nice price for the room. We stayed here because it was too cold during early June to sleep outside. It was a great all around experience. The communal kitchen allowed us to meet some people. The room and bathrooms were clean. We got good rest each night. Bakery was good and they even offered to make us vegan stuff but we just ordered some bread instead, which was good.
a good quality hostel, would stay here again A very pleasant little hostel. Spent a few nights here during a continental divide thru-hiking trip. It was a great place for some R&R. We moved here after staying a night at the backpackers inn, the other hostel in town, round the back of the Mexican restaurant 'Serranos'. This other hostel was a bit of a dump and I definitely encourage you to stay at Brownie's instead even if it's about 9 dollars more. Paid roughly 26 dollars per night here, which I think is pretty good value! Bunk rooms were comfy, spacious and felt homely. Wifi connection was good, access to a shared kitchen was handy too. Showers could have done with a little maintenance as one was broken the whole time, but otherwise were good. Spent a couple of evenings in the lounge area which was a nice place to hang out, and use their guest PC. Snacks in the cafe downstairs were tasty but a little pricey. The pizza here was pretty good and not too expensive either. It's about a 15 min walk into the centre of East glacier - which isn't too bad. Staff were pleasant. Would stay here again, hard to fault it.
